34,000 people clean and safe water

34, 000 beneficiaries

In Zambia, 33% of the urban population has no access to clean and safe water, that is, one in every three people. In rural areas the gravity of the problem is greater. A demographic and health survey conducted in 2007 revealed that 81% of the rural population has no access to clean water. Of the 81%, 46.9% is drawn from unprotected dug well whilst 30.7% is surface water.

The Lions Aid Norway, Water for Africa project is an ambitious initiative working to bring clean and safe water to the most needy communities of Zambia. Since inception, the project has sunk 50 boreholes resulting in over 34,000 people having access to clean and safe water.

Access to clean water also reduces risk to diseases such as diarrhea, cholera and Trachoma
