VILLAGE HEADMAN LEADS BY EXAMPLE IN TRACHOMA IMMUNISATION
Village Headman Munalula of Munalula Village in Lui River area of Senanga District, Western Province says he insisted on being the first person to take the anti-Trachoma drug in his village to lead by example. "I wanted to take the drug first so that my people can see that the drug is safe and that as leaders we are committed to this programme.
We have seen how people with Trachoma suffer and I don't want any of my subjects to be victims when a solution has come to our door step," he said.
Headman Munalula was speaking when a team of Community Health Volunteers visited his village in the ongoing door-to-door Trachoma immunisation campaign in Western Province. In addition to distribution of drugs to communities, the volunteers are also giving talks on the "SAFE" strategy for elimination of Trachoma.
Also present in Munalula village was a Team of Supervisors from the Provincial and District Health Office as well as LAN.
Over 70,600 people have been targeted to receive the Trachoma vaccines in Senanga District alone.
